Tyler the kitty who could.

About a year and a half ago My mother in law lost a kitty who was very dear to her. she was so upset that we went to the pet store and found this little scrawny black kitty. His name was tyler he had been negleted and given away because the family who adopeted him was Allergic to him well after this he must have lost the will to live because by the time my Mother in law got him. He was very tiny and scrawny and she could not get him to eat anything. well finally we did find some food that he would eat and slowly he started to gain weight. Now he looks for me cause I am the one who feeds and cares for all the animals now that we have moved. I usually give him about 2 to 3 cans of food a day and they are all usually eaten. and he is really starting to learn how it feels to actually just be a cat again. He started to purr for the first time about 4 months ago really loud. When you sit in any chair he will come up behind you and scratch the chair (claws are removed) and then he jumps up into your lap and starts to knead and mush. he has become a little sweet heart and a dare devil too even jumps up on the counter even if you do not have any food just to see what you are doing. thus why I have called this blog Tyler the kitty who could.

Charlie and Cammie two kitties who stole my heart.

When I was about nine years old my Mom Surprised me for my Birthday I had asked to get a dog,but when I opened this tiny package there were two cat collars inside. Mom had said that I could have a cat (even though she herself was Allergic) and My brother could get one as well. well a few days later or so we went to a local pet store called "the crows nest" well we went in and looked at all the kittens there were lots of Siamese but I did not really want a Siamese. I looked in one cage and there was this little black and white one who just seem to have my name written all over him he was sweet cuddly and loving, I eventually named him charlie while my brother had found a very timid yet sweet tortie which he named Cammie. now shortly after we got them we had taken them to the vet whose name was Dr Paul and we found out that Cammie was very healthy but that charlie had Feline Leukemia ugh I thought I was going to lose this kitty that I had just fallen in love with, well I did not and we became fast friends he was always patiently waiting at the back door when ever he heard the school bus at the end of each school day. if you think you cannot train a cat to do tricks guess again my mom and I taught this cat to roll over on command. Eventually as time went on the whole family fell in love with a lot of Charlie's antics. When my Uncle moved in to live with us He figured out how to jump from the fence to the roof to get to my Uncles balcony and if it was at night he would meow as loud as he could until my Uncle would come out pick him up and literally carry him downstairs though the house and put him in the Gigantic dog house that we had to put the cats in at night to keep them out of fights and harms way. Going down thought the house was Charlie's way of saying good night to all of us his Family. Well one night after charlie had done this I was holding Cammie as she had been waiting at the back door to be put way for the night, and my Uncle was holding charlie well we went out and opened up the top to put both cats in well when we did that I looked in and there was this black and white skunk well my Uncle thought that it was charlie until I pointed out that he was holding charlie needless to say the cats stayed in the laundry room until the skunk had gone. we eventually found out that it was a baby skunk but nobody wanted to get sprayed so we played it safe and let the cats sleep inside that night.

Well Charlie soon figured out how to get out each morning and figured out where my Bedroom window was well each morning that was my wake up call was his very LOUD Meowing. I later found out that charlie was what is known as a Tuxedo cat and that they can have some Siamese in them and that is why they are both very vocal and loving and almost dog like. Charlie would actually come when he was called and then look at you like you called and here I am.

Now Cammie was very different she was very independent she would go off and we would not see her for days but one thing that she loved was Salmon and she always seemed to know when ever mom had gone to the store because there she would be at the back door waiting. She also loved to almost sort of carry on a Conversation with you if you asked her "hi Cammie how are you"? she would look at you and then just meow right back. as she got older she got less and less independent and would stay in the back yard more and more.

one Memory I have of Charlie is when I was in about 6th grade and he followed me to the bus stop I could hear meowing though the bushes and I looked over and there he was it was as if he was scolding me for being out of my yard the way I would scold him for being in the front yard because we lived on a very busy street. One summer when we were on Vacation charlie did not understand why my Uncle was the only one home so my Uncle made the mistake of leaving the back door open well Mr Charlie snuck in and was running around Meowing as loud as he could and looking for everyone. once I was in high school my Senior year they let you take your picture with a friend well I chose Charlie because to that point in my life he was my Best friend. One of Charlie's favorite things to do was to ride around on my shoulders he would be purring as loud as he could and kneading at the same time. He also love to lick people I later learned that when a cat does this they consider you part of their family. One thing that mom and I both loved charlie for was he loved to hunt and he knew what he was allowed to have and and what was not ok because several times he would come to the back door with a bird still alive and sometimes if you told him to drop it he would and the bird would fly away other times you would have to pry his mouth open because he was so proud that he had brought you a present. I also later learned that this is a cats way of thanking you for feeding them. charlie was such a good hunter that if you asked him where a mouse was he would look and look and listen trying to figure out where it was.

Later on after high school and college and I had grown up and moved away from home I was very sad to learn that Cammie was sick with kidney disease one night mom had her in the dog house that they slept in and and it was getting late and mom gave her some water and she meowed later before mom went to bed she checked on Cammie and she was gone. that same year in June charlie suddenly got very sick and passed on I strongly believe it was because he missed Cammie so much and it was because they had be together since they were both kittens. I have also learned since then that tuxedo cats do have some Siamese in them they are very social cats and love to please their owner.

I do miss all 3 of the cats that I grew up with I think I miss Charlie the most because he was my bud its funny how you can get so attached to an animal they just love you no matter what. Cammie she was a sweetie in her own way she did not like to be held too much charlie the more you held him the happier he was lol and bandit well he was just the bud.

Golden Retriever Helps Boy Come Out of Autism - Friend Like Henry

this was just plain Awesome

Wally The Puggle that stole our hearts

About a month or so ago we as a family Including My Mother in Law were at the local pet store. we had gone there because we needed to get food for all the kitties. we have one and My Mother in law has 2. well a Rescue place had some dogs there and way back in the corner there was this one little really quiet dog that just had caught my Husbands Attention well we showed him to my Mother in Law and that was that she had to have him lol. My Mother in Law got him and he was just so happy he has now been a Part of our family for a month and has been the best thing for everyone involved but Especially for my Mother in Law and Paul are the ones who if you ask me have benefited the most from this little dog who is a puggle ( cross between a pug and a Beagle) Paul is talking way more and I have even caught him Reading stories to wally when Wally comes over to our house to stay for a few days when my Mother in Law does not feel too well. the really funny part is, when he is with us and it is time for the kids to have their bath he hears the water running and goes and jumps up onto their bed and waits for them. When the kids are in bed he will stay in there with them until they are both asleep then he wants to go outside to do his business and then he comes and jumps up on our bed and goes to sleep. this very sweet attentive and loving dog has been the best thing for our family in a very long time. I only wish that we could find another to help out Paul even more as he does not understand that wally belongs to my Mother in law and while we all love him he is still Grandma's dog. though since wally has come alone we have seen leaps of Progress with Paul and his Autism

Bandit the kitty who stole into our yard and gained a special friend.!!

One Summer when we were on Vacation here in the Midwest when we got a phone call from some of our friends who were house sitting for us, that there was a kitten that they had pulled out of our Garbage can. Well when we got home there was this Scrawny little kitten running around in our back yard as he was so little he had not yet learned how to climb. One day After school I decided to take Charlie whom was my cat and try and get this little kitten to come to me by playing and petting and interacting with charlie. Well the tricked worked and the kitten got very very curious and I got him. When I looked him over I saw that he had a crooked tail I thought that was very weird for a cat and I wondered where and how he got that way. We put him in a cat Carrier because he was so wild it was almost like he was a feral cat but he was not. We took him to the vet to find out not only what kind of cat he was but also to find out if he had had any of his shots etc. The Vet told us that he was a Black Maine Coon and that he had probably been born with his tail crooked, and that his crooked tail may have been the reason that he was dumped in the trashcan. We asked the vet to help us find a home for him as we already had charlie and Cammie but we decided to take him home and we all ended up falling in love with the Lil guy and named him Bandit because he stole into our yard.

Well charlie took this little kitten now called "Bandit the bud for short" under his wing. He taught Bandit how to clean himself play etc. This little Kitten had no social interaction of any kind with other cats what so ever so charlie became sort of his protector and Mentor if you will. Charlie and Bandit really bonded but Cammie and Bandit never did they just Tolerated each other. I do Recall one time Seeing them both sleeping together in the chair that all 3 of the cats always enjoyed.

There is one very Special friend that Bandit has made and even come to really love. This Special friend had a hard time being able to interact with bandit. So what Bandit did so that his Special friend was able to interact with him better was he would jump up onto the Picnic Table that we had out on the Back porch so that his friend could interact with him . Bandit would sit by the back door and wait until his Special friend would come out with either treats or Crunchies(dry food)and praise him and tell him what a good boy he was. and spoil him and pet him.
At night Bandit's favorite thing to do if it is a clear night and a full moon is, He goes up on the roof and runs back and forth and back and forth it is his way of telling his special friend good night and (keeping his mommy awake) the way he likes everyone to know that he is awake and wanting food is he will find a ball that will fit in his mouth and take it up on the roof and let it drop down and then he chases it just for the fun of being a cat and letting those he loves know that he is there watching over them.

I remember one night looking outside and seeing charlie and Bandit on the back of a Raccoon when the Raccoon got to the edge of the porch one cat jumped left and the other cat jumped right. The raccoon did not come back for several month's but when he did his payback for what charlie and Bandit did to him was he sat up on the picnic table and opened the cat Carrier door and slammed it shut and he kept on doing this just for the sheer fun of it all until My mom came to see what it was all about and then if my Memory serves me correctly he ran off, or maybe it was waddled because as everyone knows raccoons can be very fat little critters.

Bandit is a really good cat he and charlie and his Special friend are a really big part of who I am today and is also very special to me and very close to my heart.

here are some pictures that I found of Bandit and Charlie

Angel helping Paul

Our very sweet yet skidish and timid kitty Angel loves our son Paul, and Paul loves her, but neither one really knows how to interact with the other. With that said I have been doing some Reading about how cats in Particular help kids who have Autism learn basic social skills. When Paul was first born Angel Loved him even then. As Paul has Gotten older she has learned that he does love her to but with her Being skidish it is hard to explain to him that its not because she does not like him back its because she does not like loud noises. In the morning she will jump on the bed and if Paul is there she will meow at everyone including Paul as if to say "hey its morning get up" once everyone is up she meows still and purrs wanting everyone's attention and love. she lets Paul Pay the most attention to her in the am before he goes to school. Paul like to talk to her and tell her what he is doing and what he is playing with and she just looks at him purrs and rubs against him and Meows back. Its sometimes hard not to watch without saying anything or intervening. The really neat thing about Angel with Paul is if he gets to rough with her she knows not to put her claws out. Most of the time when he does get rough she will usually just bat at him with a paw as if to say "OK I have had enough" I have only heard her hiss at him once and it was because he had pulled her tail. He cried and asked why she had made that noise and I said "because you pulled her tail kitties do not like it when you pull their tail" and ever since then he has never done that to her again. I do not know how but cats in particular have this understanding of children with any kind of special need. Maybe its because they have unconditional love for whom ever interacts with them the most and shows them the most love and attention. Just this last week Angel has allowed Paul to start picking her up and holding her. she is now to the point where she knows that he is not going to hurt her or drop her. but he does not like it when she wiggles and wants down, this causes him to sometimes get upset and not want to pet her or hold her and I have to explain to him that this is her way of saying that she has had enough of the attention and wants to go do her own thing. I am starting to get him to realize that its better to let Angel pursue him rather than him going to her where she is.. this just goes to show how Angel is part of Paul's progress.
